Matthew Hidayat handles the full range of the firm’s work, with a practice built around the moments where immigration, criminal, and family law coincide.

Matthew represents clients in removal and deportation proceedings, prepares affirmative applications for naturalization, adjustment of status, and family and humanitarian based relief, and appears in federal court on behalf of clients held in ICE detention, including habeas corpus petitions and emergency motions seeking bond hearings. He also handles the firm’s post-conviction relief work, including motions to vacate under Penal Code sections 1473.7 and 1016.5 along with reductions, dismissals, and modifications, for clients whose old convictions now stand between them and a green card, naturalization, or their family.

Domestic violence and contentious custody

In family law matters, Matthew focuses on representing clients in domestic violence cases and contentious custody disputes. He has a wealth of experience in these matters and can help guide clients in their worst moments toward a meaningful resolution.

Because domestic violence allegations carry consequences that reach far beyond the individual case — into custody, into criminal court, and for non-citizens, into immigration status — he approaches these matters with early investigation and aggressive preparation. He has served as co-counsel on matters involving domestic violence allegations and contentious custody disputes for other firms that wanted an experienced litigator on those issues, and he welcomes those referrals.

Outside the office, Matthew is an avid fan of Volvos and the San Jose Sharks, and spends his free time fishing and with his family.
